Alas, a toy for our felines.

This post is for those who have cats at home, or for people who simply love cats. You see, I have two adult cats and two kitties, and all are very playful and energetic. So I was very happy to stumble upon this simple yet very helpful tips of getting my cats personal plaything called the "Happy Socks".

A Happy Sock is a big, fluffy catnip toy that can be made by taking a sock, stuffing it with a combination of polyester fiberfill and catnip, and then tying a knot in the ankle. The result is a durable, huggable toy that cats can lick, kick, and enjoy for countless hours.

Happy Sock catnip toys are more than mere playthings for stressed-out cat in strange surroundings. A whiff of catnip can be very therapeutic. They say, a soft, fluffy Happy Sock is a feline equivalent of a cuddly teddy bear.

Finally Kirst, here is something we can do that do not need the like of Tracey's artistic talent for our little furry babies! It doesn't have to be pretty although you can use a variety of colored socks to make one as pretty as you want them to be. They can be made from almost any kind of sock. And cats will love Happy Sock catnip toys because they're big, fluffy and durable.

If you readers can make more of these Happy Socks, then you can donate them to any cat shelter near you. I am sure those kitties will be very happy to have them.

Do cats in your shelter Ray, have these Happy Socks?

LOL, yes finally a creation of extreme pleasure for all. That is such a cool idea! My cats would be so funny to watch with those, saying that I enjoy watching them be themselves any day. cats are so cool, and with that toy the ultimate in cuteness.:)

it's mayhem at home when these furry critters would start running wild and bumping into anything - more notorious when they ran after each other to wrestle, although it never fail to elicit laughter from us.
i hope this new toy will keep them individually busy and not ran wild around the house.

catnips are just herbs Tracey, member of the mint family. but there's a variety of them. there's a common catnip called the white flower,a catmint, lemon catnip, camphor etc.
When a cat encounters catnip, it usually sniffs it, rubs against it, licks it & finally eats it.
do you cat?

Sorry, don't like cats, I am allergic to them also. Always had a cat roaming round the farm as a child though! Thanks for the info.

great idea Odette!
My cats also love cut Kiwi fruit branches - they used to rub all over them - but hard to fit into a sock!!!

Donating these to a shelter is a great idea.

My own cat ignores catnip but my dog loves it. Go figure.

I have found a laser pointer is a fun toy to play with the cat. It will chase the dot and wonder how when it gets it the dot ends up on top of it's paw rather then under it.

A short fishing pole with feathers instead of a fishing lure is also fun for the cat and it's owner.

A nearby store has some of those robotic floor cleaners that wander around to clean the floor on sale of twenty bucks. I am thinking of getting one but not bothering with the floor pads ( except for the bathroom I have carpet throughout ) and letting the cat chase it. Now that the dog has gone blind he doesn't play with the cat as much. Still some but not as much as he used to.

Sid,
indeed cats are very playful, they would play with almost anything -
even dry leaves!
and little insect aren't spared either. i just love watching them do their stuff and laugh at their antics.
Mr. Whisker know why Rocky doesn't play anymore.

Tracey,
An easy way to describe catnip is, think of lighting up a blunt, passing a roach, toking a bowl, chronic, wacky weed, latin lettice, etc, but for cats.

Odette,
We're not allowed to give it to the cats anymore. Some BS about them being psycho cats in the morning. How the hell that can be when the last of us leaves around 8pm, and the morning staff doesn't get there until 7am is beyond me.

No cat I've ever seen became a wacky cat for more than about 25 minutes before passing out. I think they just want all the fun for themselves.

AA,
does that mean catnips make the cats restless instead of the opposite? do they produce a certain high, or just make cats lethargic?
from what i have read, they say cat knows when they have enough of it.
