World's sexiest.

I was watching news on tv from my bed early this morning, when the entertainment news flashed that Hugh Jackman was voted "The Sexiest Man Alive" for the year. Damn, there was an annual award like that? But then again, I’m not much of a connoisseur of male beauty, or so I think.

Obviously, it’s the tacky People Magazine in the US that hands out this rather tacky honor. So far they have named the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, bla, bla. What a boring and predictable list! And are there so few sexy men in the world that some have to be nominated twice?

And while it is true that some of them are very sexy it is also true that the majority were far from sexy outside of the glitz and glamour of hollywood. But what makes them so irresistible? Is it because thay are being stalked by the paparazzi, or is it their washboard abs which could cut glass?

Aside from their celebrity status, these men were lots of things - unhappy, embarrassed, unwell, unattractive - but by and large they are far from the sex symbols we gaze at on the big screen, as a snatched paparazzi shot is from a Vanity Fair cover.

Besides, can it really be that the world’s sexiest men are all English-speaking and predominantly American? Although of course, Jackman is Australian.

Just as a matter of population statistics, an American should appear on the list no more than once in 20 years and Brits and Australian for that matter only once in 100 years. Meanwhile an Asian man should appear every five years.

Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, do you hear me?

The fact that the choice is made by one of America's most shallow magazines says a lot. Connery has been nominated a few times and I think won more then once. He got rather "pissed off" by it. For one thing he's Scottish not a Yank and does not have a high opinion of the American media ( or the Brit's media which is even more like a 3 ring circus with no ring master ). There is a funny story I heard him tell in an interview.

He was in I think it was Panama at a bar and 3 men sent him over a drink. He thought they were coming on to him and went over to their table kind of angry. ( Before he was James Bond he had been the Scottish Body Building Champion ). He asked them why. Their answer surprised him. They said because of him and the sexiest man article in particular. Women were now looking at men like them in a new light. Mid fifties & balding was now considered sexy and attractive. He laughed and apparently spent the rest of the evening drinking with them and telling stories.

He described the evening as a great time and a great compliment not from People magazine but the guys he ran into in the bar.

Shouldn't post two comments on the same subject but how about Jackie Chan for the position he's got a great sense of humor on top of everything else and what is sexier than a sense of humor

Well, seeing its an american magazine, and pertaining to americans, why not include people well known to americans, then it wouldnt sell much, would it? Now, saying this, I dont read it, nor do I particularly care WHO is the sexiest man. (regardless which country he comes from)... If this magazine is read by primarily women, then puting sexy men in, nomatter WHO they are, it would sell, but I suppose if it was a picture of some schmo named Joe from a backwoods farm in Oklahoma, I guess as long as he had a rock solid body and as my wife putz it, a 'Yum body and face, and six pack abs' then, women would be pleased and still buy the magazine and declare him the sexiest man alive... (then who am I to judge???)
